We recently received a letter from a concerned guest regarding our cat Salome having her backside spanked at the Cat Emporium. In this video we would like to illustrate behaviour the guest has taken issue with it and how Salome responds to it. We are so confident in our belief that Salome enjoys this interaction that we’re sharing our response publicly. Plus, if this guest does chose to uphold their threats of further action, it's just simpler for us to have been public and honest and transparent from the beginning. We don't really believe there's anything to hide here.

For context, we’ve included the email we’re responding to below.

Our Cat Care team love our cats dearly and know them better than anyone. We fully trust and support them to look after our beloved felines and we believe unreservedly that our Cat Carers will always seek to please the cats first and foremost - perhaps sometimes in ways that may seem strange to outsiders!

Please do speak to our team in the cafe if you’re not sure about what they are doing. Like Laura, every single Cat Carer is prepared to explain in more detail about that cat, and how we read their body language to understand what they like.

Firstly I would like to say what an amazing idea & café
 
This was my first time visiting the Café as a Birthday surprise , I was really looking forwards to the experience, knowing that the cats are treated well, looked after and loved
 
We were shown to our table downstairs, and a few moments being there I was shocked, stressed, upset and amazed at how the Italian girl (who we were told was the cat expert treated this 1 cat) it was appalling and really upsetting
 
She literally hit this cat on the back (quite hard) a number of times & expressed that he loved it !! The poor cat obviously did not enjoy this kind of battering and a few people within in the room were also shocked & surprised, she is not a cat expert at all , cats are used to gentle strokes & affection.
 
I would like something done in regards to this person as I am sure she would not appreciate someone smacking her on the back with such force , she did not just do this once she done this numerous times and it was stressing to see and be part of this, I also noticed other peoples reactions to what she was doing to this cat & I can assure you that they felt the same




I would appreciate a response asap & something done or I will be taking this further
 
People within the café are there to stroke , care & love these beautiful animals and if they are not getting the attention/care they should be, then something needs to be done to protect them & ensure that you have the right people caring for them
 
I feel that this certain person has failed to meet the professional standards of reasonable care and skill that you would expect from your staff

P.S  I have attached a photo & video of the beautiful Angel (who I am very concerned about as I do not want this happening again) we as humans are here to look after these beautiful animals and make they feel secure, & loved
